Opera 10 Beta Can Be Freely Downloaded
The first beta version of Opera 10 browser was just released and is free to download for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X users. Codenamed Peregrine, Opera 10 beta will deliver a new array of features, an updated user interface and an enhanced browsing speed and overall performance.
Opera 10 beta, as well as the alpha version includes Opera Turbo, the revolutionary compression technology which determines the multiplication of the value of the current Internet connection speed, resulting in broadband-like speeds on dial-up connections, for example. The automatic update option can be easily turned on or off, as a function of user’s needs.
This Opera browser version has a new interface and visual tabs. If you will drag the handle underneath the tabs (the tab bar is resizeable), the thumbnails of opened web pages will be displayed. In the same time, the user is allowed to customize the Speed Dial window.
Opera 10 beta provides a quick access to various web mail services, RSS readers or torrent clients. As compared with the alpha version, Opera 10 beta has an inline spell checker with support for 51 languages (it uses Hunspell dictionary).
Regarding the performance and web standards compliance, Opera 10 beta acts much faster on resource intensive pages such as Gmail and Facebook due to the new features introduced in Opera Presto 2.2 engine. Without Opera Turbo activated, the beta version of the browser is 40% faster than Opera 9.6. On the other hand, it has support for Web Fonts, RGBA/HSLA color and improvements of SVG.
Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software considers that users will be thrilled about the features included into this new Opera browser release: “Your Web browser is the most important piece of software you will ever use. We think Opera 10 will redefine how you can enjoy the Web. We have more surprises on the way, but when you try the features, enjoy the acclerated performance and get a glimpse at our shiny new wrapping, I think Opera 10 beta will excite both long-time users and those new to Opera.”
