Google Squared Gives A New Meaning To Web Search
Google Squared, a new search tool from Google was just released. As compared with the traditional Google search, it gives the results corresponding to a query in a row containing various attributes or facts related to the search term. Practically, you are allowed to build a spreadsheet of results with rows and columns. The columns can be added manually or based on automatic suggestions: their label will bring a specific attribute for the search query. In the spreadsheet row, the available information about the search query will be gathered from various sources.
Let’s consider for example a new row in an empty spreadsheet when you searched for “download manager” key phrase. There is possible to add new columns to this row in order to get the software description, publishing date, author, license, size and related images or screenshots (of course, more colums can be added according to your needs).
If you will add a new row the automatic suggestions will allow the search refinement. This feature is also available in case of the columns, because the Google Squared service is capable to automatically pick and define columns corresponding to various facts related to the search term.
The level of confidence for search results displayed in columns is customizable. When you delete the columns that are not needed, Google Squared will make new suggestions for the search term attributes, more appropriate to your necessities.
The Google Squared spreadsheets can be saved and shared with your friends, if you have a valid Google account.
This addition to the Google Labs will definitely improve the users search experience through a consistent data structuring method: the information from different sources related to one product are automatically displayed in a single row, not to mention the immediate possibility of easy products comparison, as you can see in the following screenshot:
