Page Speed: Minimize Your Web Pages Loading Time
Page Speed is a Firefox add-on integrated with Firebug. It is capable to improve the current web pages loading speed according to certain rules. Page Speed optimizes page loading time which is measured since a user requests the web page and until the page is completely rendered by the web browser.
Page Speed will automatically perform tests on the server configuration and the front end code. Several factors influencing the page loading speed are taking into account into these tests, such as HTTP requests transmission, the fetching of resources from cache, scripts parsing and execution, setup of TCP connections and more.
The suggestions delivered by Page Speed analysis results for a certain web page will help webmasters to optimize caching and minimize round-trip times, request size, payload size and browser rendering time.
Page Speed Team members, Richard Rabbat and Bryan McQuade explain the immediate advantages of Page Speed Firefox add-on: “For example, Page Speed automatically optimizes images for you, giving you a compressed image that you can use immediately on your web site. It also identifies issues such as JavaScript and CSS loaded by your page that wasn’t actually used to display the page, which can help reduce time your users spend waiting for the page to download and display.”
Page Speed add-on is supported on Windows (XP and up), Mac OSX (x86 and PPC) and Linux (32-bit and 64-bit) operating systems. It requires at least Mozilla Firefox 3.0.4 and Firebug Firefox Add-on 1.3.3. Page Speed is available for free download from Google Code website.
