Windows 7 E Does Not Have Internet Explorer
As the release date of the Windows 7 is coming (October 22, 2009), European Union users will also have the new operating system delivered on time, but without Internet Explorer bundled with it. Windows 7 for European users will have the letter E at the end of the product name and will be available as 32 bit and respectively 64 bit flavors. All versions of Windows 7 delivered in United States will be shipped in European Union too, in 23 languages.
Users still have the possibility to install Internet Explorer or a different web browser: “Given the pending legal proceeding, we’ve decided that instead of including Internet Explorer in Windows 7 in Europe, we will offer it separately and on an easy-to-install basis to both computer manufacturers and users. This means that computer manufacturers and users will be free to install Internet Explorer on Windows 7, or not, as they prefer. Of course, they will also be free, as they are today, to install other Web browsers”, explained Dave Heiner, Microsoft Vice President and Deputy General Counsel.
Windows 7 E versions will have the same functionality and features as Windows 7 US versions, minus Internet Explorer. As a consequence, the applications designed to run on Windows will be fully compatible with Windows 7 E versions.
“We believe that this new approach, while not our first choice, is the best path forward given the ongoing legal case in Europe. It will address the “bundling” claim while providing European consumers with access to the full range of Windows 7 benefits that will be available in the rest of the world. Our developers are focused on delivering a great Windows 7 experience to customers and a great browser as well.”, added Dave Heiner.
In conclusion, European Union users will not have problems in accessing web pages with the browser of their choice. In the same time, computer manufacturers have the options to setup any kind of web browser in Windows 7 E versions.
