Android Has Voice Search On Google Maps And A New iGoogle
On Google Mobile Blog, there was announced the availability of an updated version of Google Maps for Android mobile phones, which will allow you to perform searches by using your voice. In the same time, an improved version of iGoogle for Android and iPhone devices was rolled out (still in beta). The new iGoogle provides tabs and also supports gadgets made by third party developers.
The key features of iGoogle for Android and iPhone devices are summarized in a Google Mobile Blog post: “ One of our favorite new features is the in-line display of articles for feed-based gadgets. That means you can read article summaries without leaving the page. You can also rearrange gadget order or keep your favorite gadgets open for your next visit.”
On Android, Google Maps service is capable to execute any query expressed with your voice. For example, it can rapidly give you the location associated with a certain store or hospital based on their name. The voice recognition engine is compatible only with American, Australian, and British English language.
The Google Latitude feature of Google Map service for Android was also improved. Now, your location will be updated continuously, while the phone is on, without stopping.
On the other hand, Google Latitude has a new experimental feature which allows you to easily communicate with your friends. They must have installed the latest version of Google Maps for Android to be able to use this feature.
iGoogle for Android and iPhone mobiles is available in 38 languages from the following URL: http://igoogle.com. The updated Google Maps for Android is provided for download in the Android Market.
