Mandriva Linux 2010 Alpha 1: A Faster Boot Time
Mandriva Linux 2010 Alpha 1 was just announced to be available for free download on public mirrors as DVD ISO images compatible with 32bit and respectively 64bit platforms. It comes with major new features, such as KDE 4.3 Beta 2, GNOME 2.27.3 and Xfce 4.6.1 desktops environments, the recent stable release of the kernel 2.6.30 and X.org server 1.6.1.901. You will also notice an improved booting time for Mandriva Linux 2010 Alpha 1 Linux distribution.
Kernel 2.6.30 provides an extended hardware support, including more LAN, Wi-Fi, audio and video hardware. In the same time, changes to the Ext3 and Ext4 file systems, Faster encryption and booting, Tomoyo security framework were also made in Kernel 2.6.30.

-clean and complete grub and install menu (failsafe, init3 entry, recovery entry, check tool for istallation media)
-use of Plymouth and fallback on Splashy for non supported chipsets
-switch to Tomoyo as security framework, provide GUI for common setup, integrated also in msec tool
-guest account created on the fly when needed
-packaging of Moblin, use it as default environment if stable enough when light hardware configuration is detected
-manage end of life distribution through mdkonline applet
-autodetection of local urpmi repositories
-improve hybrid iso use
It is not recommended to upgrade an existing Mandriva installation with the Alpha 1 version of Mandriva Linux 2010 due to the existing unresolved issues with KDE and GNOME windows managers.
