HTC Hero: The First Android Phone With Flash Support
The new HTC Hero phone, based on the Android mobile operating system will be shipped with support for Adobe Flash Platform technology. Users will enjoy a better browsing experience, being able to use Flash games and other applications right on their mobile phone. In the same time, you are allowed to view Flash movies, like YouTube videos, on full screen by double tapping the phone screen.
According to a statement of David Wadhwani, vice president and general manager, Platform Business Unit at Adobe, the addition of Flash Player 10 technology to the HTC Hero will open the user access to various Flash based rich Internet applications and also represents a major step in the evolution of the Flash enabled mobile phones of the future:
“As the first Android device with Flash, the new HTC Hero represents a key milestone for Android and the Flash Platform. With close to 80 percent of all videos online delivered with Adobe Flash technology, consumers want to access rich Web content on-the-go. The collaboration with HTC offers people a more complete Flash based Web browsing experience today and presents an important step towards full Web browsing with Flash Player 10 on mobile phones in the future.”
HTC Hero mobile phone will provide a powerful video playback performance and interactive content made with ActionScript 2.0 (Sorenson and On2 VP6 codecs are supported). The best audio experience is ensured by progressive streaming of large MP3 audio files from a Web server and the local file storage.
HTC will participate in the Open Screen Project to bring Flash Player 10 and full Web browsing to the next generation of Android based smartphones. A quick demonstration of the HTC Hero mobile phone powered by Android with Adobe Flash support is available here.
