Microsoft Security Essentials Beta: Official Release
Last week a leaked version of the Microsoft new antivirus product code named Morro (Microsoft Security Essentials) was published on various Internet sites. Now, Microsoft officially launched a beta version of Microsoft Security Essentials, the free anti-malware application, which is the successor of Windows Live OneCare security service. The beta program offers Microsoft Security Essentials antivirus software just for the first 75000 users who will download it. The download limit could be extended, depending on the general public demand.
Microsoft Security Essentials is provided in two flavors for 32bit and 64bit platforms, currently running one of the following operating systems: Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Service Pack 3, Windows Vista and Windows 7 Beta or Release Candidate.
The application installer will require you to validate your Windows operating system. As compared with the leaked pre-beta version of Microsoft Security Essentials, the beta software has indeed a small memory footprint.
With Microsoft Security Essentials all Windows users will obtain an up-to-date free and efficient protection against worms, trojans and many other types of malicious software. The application does not require a subscription and in the same time, the viruses database update and the software upgrade process is performed automatically.
You can get Microsoft Security Essentials through Microsoft Connect, after successfuly answering a few questions. Being a beta release, Microsoft Security Essentials should not be used as a replacement for your current antivirus software. The beta version of Microsoft Security Essentials is intended for testing only.
