Windows 7 Home Premium Family Pack Speculations
Even Microsoft has not made an official announcement about offering a Family Pack license to the upcoming Windows 7 Home Premium, a few news publishing websites already speculate the possibility of existence of this special type of license. According to the EULA of the latest leaked builds of Windows 7 and the agreements for retail copies of Windows 7 Home Premium, a Qualified Family Pack User will be able to install a copy of this software in a single household on three computers for use by people who reside there.
Here it is the section of the EULA for Windows 7 Home Premium specifying the term which indicates the existence of a Family Pack License for Windows 7:
“Family Pack. If you are a “Qualified Family Pack User”, you may install one copy of the software marked as “Family Pack” on three computers in your household for use by people who reside there. Those computers are the “licensed computers” and are subject to these license terms. If you do not know whether you are a Qualified Family Pack User, visit go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?Linkid=141399 or contact the Microsoft affiliate serving your country. “
In the same time, ZDNet confirms the absence of “Qualified Family Pack User” terms in the license agreement for other Windows 7 editions:
”By the way, these same terms are also contained in the license agreement for Windows 7 Home Premium E (the one sold in Europe, sans Internet Explorer), as well as the N, K, and KN Home Premium versions, which are also deliberately gutted of one or more features to satisfy antitrust authorities. The Family Pack language is not included in the license agreement for any other Windows 7 edition.”
These speculations could be true, but from my point of view, I guess there will be a lot of torrent links out there, waiting for you to download Windows 7 Home premium for free for more than three computers. Or, if you buy an official Windows 7 Home premium DVD and use a hack to install it on more than one computer, will somebody notice?
