Google Chrome OS Partners Were Confirmed
After the official announcement of the upcoming Google Chrome OS was made, Google has also made public the list of the technology companies which will support this project. The hardware manufacturers that will collaborate with the Google search giant are: Acer, Adobe, ASUS, Freescale, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, Toshiba and other companies. Sony, Dell, Samsung or LG, companies which uses Linux distributions for powering various models of the devices produced by them, seems to not be included in the list of Google Chrome OS project partners. “The Google Chrome OS team is currently working with a number of technology companies to design and build devices that deliver an extraordinary end user experience. Among others, these companies include Acer, Adobe, ASUS, Freescale, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, and Toshiba.”, stated Sundar Pichai, VP Product Management and Linus Upson, Engineering Director in a blog post published on Google Chrome Blog.
In the same blog post, Sundar Pichai and Linus Upson also underline the license of Google Chrome OS, as being open source, therefore you are free to use this operating system at no cost.
The open source software community members are welcomed to work on this project too, but in the same time Google provides jobs (full positions) to software engineers interested to work on Chrome.
The code of the open source and lightweight operating system, Google Chrome OS, will be released later this year, while the first netbooks equipped with it, will be made available to the public in the second half of 2010.
