Dark Linux: Ubuntu Satanic Edition
Ubuntu Satanic Edition is a Linux distribution based on Ubuntu, which unifies in an easy to install Live CD the best free software and metal music. It is provided in two “dark” desktop flavors, including both Gnome (Ubuntu) and KDE (Kubuntu) variants. Ubuntu Satanic Edition was not enclosed into the Distro Watch website listings due to various reasons. Recently, with the help of the Ubuntu community, was solved an issue regarding the intelectual property violation of Ubuntu trademark in case of Ubuntu Satanic Edition, and maybe in the near future, this Linux distribution will be also found on Distro Watch.
“Within a day of the Ubuntu SE store being closed down due to intellectual Property violation, the issue has been cleared up. Jono Bacon, the Ubuntu community manager, said the letter was some kind of mistake and that SE would be granted an official trademark license.“
Ubuntu Satanic Edition has very flexible installation methods. It can be installed from a Live CD (clean installation) or on a computer which already contains Ubuntu Linux distribution. Ubuntu Satanic Edition supports Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04, Intrepid 8.10, Hardy 8.04, Gutsy 7.10, Feisty 7.04 and Edgy 6.10.
According to the official description of Ubuntu Satanic Edition Live CD, here it is what you will get by downloading and installing the ISO image content (the installation process takes less than 25 minutes on a modern computer):
“The dark theme plunges your desktop into depths of Hell, while the ray-traced screensaver keeps your PC looking evil even when you’re not using it. The CD also contains a 30 minute EP of the best creative-commons licensed heavy metal music from the likes of StabWounD, Auvernia, Frontside, Skaut, Taste of Hell, Scape.Goat and Holy Pain.”
