Get Firefox 3.5.1: Without Critical Security Flaws
Web browsers will always have security flaws, especially due to the possibility of the remote code execution through JavaScript routines. In case of the recently released Firefox 3.5 browser, the highly critical security flaw was solved in the updated version (Firefox 3.5.1) launched on July 16, 2009 by Mozilla. Alongside the severe security issue reported by Secunia and other similar sites, in this new Firefox release, additional security and stability related problems were also patched.
In a previous article, there were explained the details of the highly critical security vulnerability of Firefox 3.5: “ The vulnerability is caused due to an error when processing JavaScript code handling e.g. “font” HTML tags and can be exploited to cause a memory corruption. Successful exploitation allows execution of arbitrary code. This type of vulnerability could also be found in previous versions of Firefox too. “ (according to Secunia)
Practically, an attacker could run a code remotely through JavaScript and install software which allows him to take the total control over your computer.
Fortunately, in Firefox 3.5.1, the corrupted JIT state after deep return from native function was fixed and as a consequence the critical security flaw is no longer present, but in previous versions of Firefox it could still exist.
