Kubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) Alpha-3 Goes Social
The latest release of the upcoming Kubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) (Alpha-3 version) prepared a surprise for Linux fans who also use netbooks alongside desktop computers: now a netbook image to install on lightweight hardware is available for free download. In the same time, Kubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) Alpha 3 comes with social networking tools enabled on the KDE 4.3 RC desktop, such as KDE microblogging Plasma widget for initiating rapid connection on identi.ca and Twitter. Facebook users was not forgotten, because the Facebook Kopete plugin will allow them to chat with Facebook friends by using the default chat client.
You will find several chages in KDE 4.3 RC desktop, like the significant refinements of Plasma and KWin, the KDE workspace and many improvements.
Due to the fact that Konqueror is not compatible with various popular websites, there was decided the replacement of Konqueror with Arora in Kubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) Alpha 3. Arora has a small memory footprint, a low file size and being based on webkit engine, it is also fast. The following applications were updated in the Alpha 3 release of Kubuntu 9.10: Amarok 2.1.1, KPackageKit 0.4.1.1 and K3b 1.66.0 (alpha 2).
The GTK+ Appearance System Settings module was reintegrated in this release of Kubuntu 9.10 as a standalone application. It allows you to configure the GTK+ widget style and fonts for your favorite GNOME apps in KDE.
Kubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) Alpha-3 is available for free download as Live CD ISO for both 32bit and 64bit platforms, as well as for netbooks (32bit netbook live image).

Arora isn’t for-sure yet. It still could be KDE 4 Konqueror. We haven’t decided.
Arora also isn’t fast, in my experience. I thought webkit should be fast, but Firefox is much faster than Arora on all the sites I’ve tried.
