Facebook Allows The Changing Of Vanity URLs And Posting By Email
This was the week when we received only good news from Facebook (as always of course). In the first place, now mobile users can upload photos and videos to their accounts in order to share with friends, just by sending an email. But the more exciting news is that the currently existing vanity URLs structure can be changed (practically you are allowed to change your user name).
Sameer Moidu, engineer on the Facebook mobile team, ensures users that there are no limits for the multimedia files sent by email: “After you attach your photos or videos to an email, you can include a subject line that will be used as the caption for the photos or videos you upload. If you’re uploading more than one photo or video in the email, the captions will be the same for all of them. You can always edit the captions later by logging into your Facebook account. You can send as many photos or videos as you want in a single email, within the file size limits of your email provider.”
The emails containing the multimedia files must be sent to a personal upload email address, obtained from Facebook Mobile page.
The possibility of changing your Facebook username, which is contained in the structure of the Facebook vanity URL, was discovered by Sarah Perez from Read Write Web, who published the details of the operations necessary to create a new vanity URL associated to your Facebook account:
“It appears that Facebook has quietly launched a new option in the settings area called “username” where you have the option to change your Facebook username. To find this option, go to “Settings” at the top-right of the Facebook page and then click on “Account Settings.” The second option from the top is “Username.” Press “Change” to enter in your new username and then click “Confirm” when you’re ready to set it.”
So what’s the catch? You are allowed to perform the Facebook vanity URL change only once, therefore the new username should be chosen carefully.
