Who Deleted Your Twitter Followers?
This morning when I opened Twitter, the number of followers count was dramatically decreased. Looking for a logical explanation, the first possibility was to think that the respective followers Twitter users chosen to not follow my Twitter updates anymore. But, the real explanation was provided by Twitter itself: in the attempt to correct the followers and following counts, Twitter service has been updated in order to reflect the real values. The majority of spam accounts could be also removed.
Here it is the official explanation for the modification of the values shown by the followers and following counts on your Twitter status page:
“For some time, the follower and following counts we display have been incorrect for some folks. We’re soon to push a change that will address this issue. This means that the count you see in your sidebar should match what you see on your follower and following pages.
However, a consequence of this change is that follower counts will drop for some people. In particular, those with large followings may see significant changes as we correct for spam accounts and data inconsistencies. No legitimate followings should be affected—we’re just cleaning up artifacts in the system.”
By the removal of the spam accounts data, your Twitter updates will stay longer in view of the legitimate Twitter users and in the same time, it is always good to know the real value of the fans following your updates.
