Application Verifier Validates Windows Mobile Apps
Microsoft has just released an useful free tool for Windows Mobile applications developers: Application Verifier Tool for Windows Mobile. This software is capable to check the validity of the mobile applications functions and to detect common programming mistakes. A positive diagnostics reports of Application Verifier Tool for Windows Mobile is critical for the applications submitted to Windows Marketplace for Mobile catalog.
The Application Verifier Tool for Windows Mobile documentation is referred to the version 5 of Windows Mobile operating system, but the documentation content is also applicable in case of Windows Mobile 6.0 or later.
In the official description of the validation tool intended for mobile applications, there is explained its functionality: “ The tool can detect and pinpoint memory leaks, handle leaks, and leaks in graphics device interface (GDI) objects. The tool can also detect some forms of heap corruption. Application Verifier attaches to an application and performs tests while the application runs. With the tool, you may be able to diagnose subtle problems with an application that would otherwise be difficult to diagnose on Microsoft® Windows® CE.”
In a blog post, published on Windows Mobile Blog, were underlined the specific conditions which an application must met in order to be considered for the inclusion in Windows Marketplace for Mobile catalog:
-The application must not break into the debugger, crash, or fail when Application Verifier Heaps, Locks and Handles related tests are performed.
-The application must not have any invalid pointers associated with the main executable.
In order to be able to use Application Verifier Tool, Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 Redistributable Package and Microsoft Windows CE Test Kit (CETK) must be installed on your computer. Application Verifier Tool for Windows Mobile is available for free download from the Microsoft website.
