Ultra X Linux: Ubuntu With A Faster Kernel
Ultra X Linux is a new Linux distribution built on the solid structure of Ubuntu. It is powered by a modified kernel which delivers a better performance than Ubuntu itself. An interesting addition is represented by the tmpclear feature – an innovative way to automatically solve issues related with X0-lock errors determined by incorrect installation of certain drivers when you deploy Ubuntu. The Linux kernel version used is 2.6.24-16.30 and the results of Ubuntu tuning are reflected in a faster speed and an extended support for a larger variety of applications. Ultra X Linux is shipped with an unique GNOME desktop out of the box, but tweaks for KDE support can also be performed.
The tmpclear feature cleans up all the packages left over installation along with junk files, as well as tmp files and removes the X0-lock file before the user login.
Ultra X Linux is available for free download as Live DVD ISO images in two flavors: Desktop Edition and Media Edition. Both of them include Sun VirtualBox by default, a powerful virtualization platform for x86 hardware, suitable for server, desktop and embedded usage.
Ultra X Linux Media Edition has Boxee media center preinstalled. Boxee enables you to stream video, watch Internet TV shows or listen music from the comfort of the flexible desktop environment provided by Ultra X Linux Media Edition.
Ultra X Linux is very easy to install and use. After you download the desired ISO file and burn it to a DVD, then the installation will take place in no time. The latest version of Ultra X Linux distribution can be downloaded from the official website.
