Midori: A Fast And Free Portable Web Browser
Portable web browsers have many advantages when you are using several computers: just plug-in the USB drive and you are ready to go with all settings and bookmarks in place, without the need to synchronize data or perform the software installation. Over the Internet there are already published the portable versions of popular web browsers, like Firefox or Opera for example.
But, if you are still looking for a free and lightweight portable browser, Midori is an alternative that should be at least tested, because it runs fast and does not use a high amount of your system resources. This portable web browser was written in C programming language and is provided in more than 20 languages.
Midori is built with WebKit, like Google Chrome and uses GTK+2 for the graphical user interface. It is integrated into any modern XFCE Linux desktop environment, but also Windows version is available.
It features a tabbed interface and allows windows and sessions management. In the same time, Midori supports a configurable web search form, RSS feeds, integration of third party download managers, user scripts, skins and more.
Into the Midori configuration area (window), there is also provided support for the setup of proxy servers, user privacy, browser behavior and more.
Midori web browser allows you to open an unlimited number of tabs, while the amount of RAM used is still low, as compared with other tabbed web browsers.
From my point of view, Midori is a flexible web browser, regarding the possibilities of customization and scripting support. On the other hand, Midori renders web pages very quickly and during my tests, it seems to be errors free.
