Webmaster Tools: Googlebot Fetching Process And Malware Details
Recently, Google has included into Webmaster Tools service new features under the Labs section: Fetch as Googlebot and Malware details. The revealing of Googlebot fetching process is really an important addition to Webmaster Tools service, because from now on you will exactly know how a web page is “seen” by Google spiders.
On the other hand, the second new feature introduced into Webmaster Tools Labs will be useful when one or more of your web pages are declared as containing possible malware content or sources. Therefore, you will be allowed to identify the causes determining the labeling of a web site in Google Search results as “This site may harm your computer.”
On the Official Google blog, Marissa Mayer, VP, Search Products & User Experience explains the immediate advantages of Fetch as Googlebot feature:
“New this week, we’re providing a tool as part of our Webmaster Tools Lab that lets you to see what Googlebot sees in the hope that this will help site owners better understand why we think your pages are relevant, and to what. We think this can help webmasters design pages that are easier for Googlebot to understand, and more importantly, easier for users to understand.”
As a consequence, web masters will receive a real-time feedback on how a web page is indexed by Googlebot. This information is useful when you perform a website redesign or you want to know the efficiency of certain keywords in correlation with the page rank.
The Malware Details feature will simplify the detection of malicious code, eliminating the manual analysis of web pages.
Sagar Kamdar, Product Manager at Google Webmaster Tools described how Malware Details feature will help you to instantly identify the malware sources on your web pages:
“Sometimes finding the malicious code is extremely difficult, even when you do know which pages it was found on. Today we are happy to announce that we’ll be providing snippets of code that exist on some of those pages that we consider to be malicious. We hope this additional information enables you to eliminate the malware on your site very quickly, and reduces the number of iterations many webmasters go through during the review process.”
In order to be able to access these new features and the other benefits of Webmaster Tools for free, you must have a valid Google account.
