Google Social Search: Tweets In Google Search Results
The real-time updates from social networks, like Twitter, represent a reference source of important data reflecting the latest news and important discoveries brought to the surface from all Internet corners. Taking into account the primarily connection of Twitter real time data with the current evolution of a certain topic, Google decided to include tweets in its search results.
Marissa Mayer, Vice President of Search Products and User Experience at Google explained the benefits determined by the inclusion of Twitter updates into Google Search pages:
“Given this new type of information and its value to search, we are very excited to announce that we have reached an agreement with Twitter to include their updates in our search results. We believe that our search results and user experience will greatly benefit from the inclusion of this up-to-the-minute data, and we look forward to having a product that showcases how tweets can make search better in the coming months.”
Last week, the new Social Search service from Google, which will deliver tweets into Google search pages, was unveiled at Web 2.0 conference. The apparition of this service is correlated with the exponential increase of the social networking phenomenon and its scope is to provide a higher relevancy of the search results:
“Social Search does just that by surfacing content in your search results that is written by your friends or people you follow. That way, you get the best resources from the web overall, plus the best results (blogs, reviews, travelogues) that are relevant to you, since they were written by people you know.”
The Google Social Search service is expected to be launched in the near future on Google Experimental and Google Labs.
