Plesk is a powerful hosting automation control panel, used at a large scale in case of Linux hosting services. It has an intuitive graphical user interface and a wide range of options which simplify the administration of a Linux based hosting account. In a similar manner as CPanel, Plesk allows you to automatically install popular PHP / MySQL applications, like WordPress, Joomla and more.

The main problem that occurs in case of automatic installations of PHP applications with Plesk, are related to the PHP Safe Mode On issue, frequently discussed on many forums.

If you cannot install a certain PHP / MySQL application with Plesk due to the fact that PHP is running with Safe Mode directives, the following steps must be performed in order to disable PHP Safe Mode:

- login to your Plesk account and select the domain which will be associated with PHP Safe Mode Off directive
- select the Setup icon corresponding to your preferred domain
- click into the checkbox indicating the PHP Safe Mode On option

Now, you should be able to automatically install the desired PHP / MySQL application from within Plesk, without the need to manually upload files or edit the .htaccess directives for the Apache web server.
