Isolated in January 2009, the B version of Win32/Conficker (W32.Downadup) is a worm which targets Windows operating systems unpatched for the MS08-067 security vulnerability. The recent reports about the new version of the Win32/Conficker (W32.Downadup) threat, reveal the fact that starting since April 1st, 2009 the worm will change its mechanism of action, but concrete information regarding what it will do, there are not specified yet. A team of researchers from Microsoft has published a paper called “The Multi-Principal OS Construction of the Gazelle Web Browser”, in which there is described the model of a new browser prototype, as well as the testing results. The browser is called Gazelle and is conceived as a multi-principal OS (a principal is the equivalent of a website) – the most secure web browser ever built until now, with its own Kernel, an operating system that manages the protection of resources in an exclusive manner.

According to McAfee and Symantec security companies, Adobe Acrobat 9.x and 8.x versions are affected by a security flaw that allows attackers to infect users computers with a Backdoor trojan virus through malicious PDF documents. In response, Adobe corporation defined this vulnerability as being critical, determining the application to crash and allowing the attacker to take control of the affected system.

Kaspersky Lab has recently confirmed the existence of several attacks over usa.kaspersky.com subdomain on Saturday, February 7, 2009. The IP addresses of the attackers were identified as being provided by Romanian ISPs. The attacks were based on SQL injection and the penetration of usa.kaspersky.com was successful, but the hackers did not compromised or stolen sensitive data, like personal details or activation codes. The attack through SQL injection was possible due to a vulnerability of the website, which was fixed after the notification of the hacking attempt. Practically, this security issue does not affected any other Kaspersky websites or the e-commerce sections.
