As compared with earlier candidates, version 4.3 of Puppy Linux puts you in total control of choosing the desired packages from various Linux distributions such as Debian, Ubuntu, Arch or Slackware. The last development version (RC2) of Mandriva Linux 2010 was made available for free download on public mirrors. Mandriva Linux 2010 RC2 comes with lots of bugs fixed, but also new features, like Moblin 2.0, KDE 4.3.2, GNOME 2.28 and Xfce 4.6.1 graphical environments. (more…)
The long waited Android 2.0 “Donut” code was released on the official repository a few days ago. This version, still unstable is intended for developers and includes the features unveiled at the Google I/O Developer Conference, which was held in May 2009 at Moscone Center, San Francisco. The available unstable versions of Android 2.0 “Donut” are Android Dev Phone 1 and T-Mobile G1. Google Latitude, the service from Google which allows you to control your current location status and share it with friends from a mobile device or a computer, now was also launched for the iPhone and iPod touch as an application compatible with Safari browser. The Google Latitude app for the iPhone and iPod touch mobile devices works in a similar manner like the one corresponding to Android phones: the user is allowed to see its friends location on a map, as well as to modify the privacy settings. After the official announcement of the upcoming Google Chrome OS was made, Google has also made public the list of the technology companies which will support this project. The hardware manufacturers that will collaborate with the Google search giant are: Acer, Adobe, ASUS, Freescale, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, Toshiba and other companies. Sony, Dell, Samsung or LG, companies which uses Linux distributions for powering various models of the devices produced by them, seems to not be included in the list of Google Chrome OS project partners. The new HTC Hero phone, based on the Android mobile operating system will be shipped with support for Adobe Flash Platform technology. Users will enjoy a better browsing experience, being able to use Flash games and other applications right on their mobile phone. SPRXmobile company has launched the world’s first mobile Augmented Reality browser, Layar. It is a free software available for mobile phones having Android operating system (T-Mobile G1 and HTC Magic). Layar will allow you to see on the phone screen digital information in real time, displayed on top of the real images transmitted by the mobile device camera. In this way, the user will discover houses for sales, shops and bars or other locations, just through the camera lens.
On Google Mobile Blog, there was announced the availability of an updated version of Google Maps for Android mobile phones, which will allow you to perform searches by using your voice. In the same time, an improved version of iGoogle for Android and iPhone devices was rolled out (still in beta). The new iGoogle provides tabs and also supports gadgets made by third party developers.

Just released, Mac OS X 10.5.7 includes various fixes that enhance the stability, security and hardware support for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard operating system. The security issues solved are related to Apache’s handling of FTP proxy requests, CoreGraphics and Safari web browser. Regarding the hardware support enhancements, Mac OS X 10.5.7 offers additional RAW image support for several third-party cameras, as well as improved performance of video playback and cursor movements for recent Macs with NVIDIA graphics. In the updated version of Mac OS X, an issue with Dvorak keyboard layout in Mac OS X 10.5.6 was also resolved.
Google has just informed developers and users that the next release of the Android platform (Android 1.5) debuts with the immediate availability of Android 1.5 SDK, which is ready for free download in case of commonly used operating systems: Windows, Mac OS X (Intel) and Linux (i386). As compared with the previous version, the Android 1.5 platform contains many new features and improvements, for both users and developers. For now on, the applications can be created more efficiently for multiple versions of Android in a single SDK installation.
