One year ago, in the article “A New Powerful Virus Could Affect Millions of WordPress Blogs“, there was underlined the necessity of performing updates of WordPress sites, especially when critical security issues are fixed in the current software release. The latest version (2.8.2) of the popular blogging platform WordPress was just launched and is ready for free download. WordPress 2.8.2 patches an XSS security vulnerability: due to the fact that the author’s comment URLs were not fully sanitized in version 2.8.1, an attacker could used this security leak in order to redirect you from the administration area to another website.

PHP development team has just announced the availability of PHP version 5.3.0. This release comes with major improvements as compared with the previous versions existing in PHP 5.x series. PHP version 5.3.0 has many new features, as well as bug fixes (in this release over 140 bugs were repaired). In the migration guide intended for the users of PHP 5.2.0 who want to upgrade to PHP 5.3.0, there are explained the main differences between versions 5.2.0 and 5.3.0 of PHP.

The availability of WordPress version 2.8 was just announced. WordPress 2.8 code named Baker shows many new notable features and improvements of taxonomies, themes, widgets and speed of response. The administrator graphical user interface is similar with WordPress 2.7, but various tweaks were implemented into the newer version of WordPress, such as the possibility to install a theme contained in the theme directory with a single mouse click, right within the dashboard.
