Conficker is a dangerous worm that allows attackers to remotely control your computer. The latest Windows security updates keep Conficker away, but if your computer was already infected before performing Windows update process, you will not be able to access Microsoft or security websites to remove the worm. By using a fuzzing based test method, the security experts Charlie Miller and Collin Mulliner have injected SMS messages locally in an iPhone, without the need of a mobile operator network and have demonstrated how a virus can be enabled on an iPhone device in the absence of phone user participation, just by receiving a SMS. One year ago, in the article “A New Powerful Virus Could Affect Millions of WordPress Blogs“, there was underlined the necessity of performing updates of WordPress sites, especially when critical security issues are fixed in the current software release. The latest version (2.8.2) of the popular blogging platform WordPress was just launched and is ready for free download. WordPress 2.8.2 patches an XSS security vulnerability: due to the fact that the author’s comment URLs were not fully sanitized in version 2.8.1, an attacker could used this security leak in order to redirect you from the administration area to another website.

Last week a leaked version of the Microsoft new antivirus product code named Morro (Microsoft Security Essentials) was published on various Internet sites. Now, Microsoft officially launched a beta version of Microsoft Security Essentials, the free anti-malware application, which is the successor of Windows Live OneCare security service. The beta program offers Microsoft Security Essentials antivirus software just for the first 75000 users who will download it. The download limit could be extended, depending on the general public demand.
